ATTORNEY PROFILE

Aequitas legem sequitur - Equity follows the law

Personal Background

As a lawyer:

Atty. Earl Charles N. Villarin (Atty. Earl) has started his law career as a litigator with one of the most recognized law firm in the south. He handled a wide range of cases from labor disputes, criminal cases, and property claims. As a new lawyer he was already pitted against large banks, and multinational companies where he was tasked to protect the interests of the minority.

In 2009, he left for Australia to take his Masters in Commercial and Resources Law majoring in intellectual property and corporate finance with a minor in oil and gas at the University of Western Australia. He graduated on top of his class and received the distinction of having the highest grade point average for the full academic year of his masters. He was the only Filipino at that time to receive such a distinction.

After finishing his masters, he was taken in by the biggest law firm in the Philippines, where he handles mostly intellectual property cases for international brands such as tiffany, billabong and nike livestrong to mention a few. He also continued his litigation practice representing a variety of clients during his stay with the firm.

At present, he is connected with the largest bank in the country, where he now focuses on his corporate practice, while handling foreign litigations for the bank.

As a professional:

Atty. Earl was also part of the Office of the Press Secretary (Malacanang) during the term of two press secretaries. During that period, he received several civilian commendations from the Armed Forced of the Philippines for his work during the US-RP Balikatan Exercises and the Punitive Wars against terrorists in Mindanao.

As a private individual, he was also connected with multinational financial companies where he serviced foreign markets.

As a student:

Atty. Earl was a scholar all through out his studies. He graduated valedictorian in high school, and went to the University of the Philippines (Diliman) as a full scholar of the Villar Foundation. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Economics cum laude. He finished his college in three and a half semesters ahead of his batch.

He took his law proper at the San Beda College of Law (Mendiola) where aside from being a full time working student is also a full scholar of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP). He was a consistent dean's lister, and was a member of the college's prestigious legal aid program.

He took his bar exams in 2007 and ranked at the top 5 percent of the bar passers for the said period.

Currently, he also has a masters in law at the University of Western Australia and is a certified securities specialist by the Philippine Stock Exchange (in partnership with the Ateneo Professional Schools).
